The Perfect Pair: Rocking Menu at River Street Jazz Cafe is Totally Our Jam
Like finding fresh ingredients for a meal, finding wickedly talented bands to come to our venue is a labor of love for our customers. When you come to River Street Jazz Cafe, you can expect to find great live music and delicious plates from our rocking menu.
But not only is listening to live music over a meal a fun twist on date night, but there have been links to music changing the way we eat.
Curious? Read (and rock) on!
Atmosphere
Food is a major part of the dining experience but it isn’t the only thing. In fact, studies show that the food served is only 50% of the total experience for someone dining in at your establishment.
What’s the other half? The ambiance, baby. The physical location, the decor, and the service make up a lot of that percentage but so does music. The music played at a restaurant can completely change the dining experience for a customer. Think about it: you go to a chain restaurant on a weekday afternoon and say they blast “In Da Club”. Maybe not so fitting for a Wednesday afternoon.
How Much You Eat
How much we eat in a single seating can be influenced by a variety of factors like hormones, mood, other outside forces, etc. But did you know there are studies out there suggesting that when we listen to music while eating, we actually eat more?
First of all, sign me up. But it’s true! Researchers from Georgia State University tested the theory on 78 college students. They recorded the student’s food intake along with characteristics of the music played like speed and volume, as well as location, number of people present and the time of day. The data showed that the presence of music leads to higher food intake.
Not only does it change how much you eat but it also makes your meal last longer as you are more likely to stay in a restaurant.
Fun fact: music will also impact how you chew! You heard that right. You may change the rhythm of your chewing to match the song tempo.
Sound and Taste
Think of our senses: smell, sight, taste, and sound. We know our senses influence our likes and dislikes so it should be no surprise that music plays a huge role in how much we enjoy a meal. Be it the crunch of a fish taco, the glorious look of a cheese pull when enjoying mozzarella sticks, or the refreshing taste of our wedge salad, depending on what music you are hearing can also impact the way you enjoy the meal.
But when you come to River Street Jazz Cafe we guarantee you and your taste buds will be dancing all night long.
