Don’t Miss a Steely Dan Tribute by Good Stuff!

There are only a few pieces of entertainment that we can experience live. Film, television, video games, and even reading are all art that we don’t experience live. Music is one of the few we can enjoy after it’s finished and live when the artists perform it. One thing that only happens to music is that musicians’ voices and playing styles change over time. That allows fans to listen to music through a different lens multiple times.

But what do we do when the band doesn’t perform live anymore? We have the records and digital copies, but they’re not the same as a live performance. There’s electricity in the air from the cheer of the crowd all around you that a recording can’t replicate. But there is something that can come really close.

A tribute concert, where another band performs a specific band’s music to try to recreate that feeling of the original musicians’ live performances as best they can. We’ve had several tribute concerts at the River Street Jazz Cafe, and on April 16th, 2022, we’re having another one. This time we’re celebrating the American rock band, Steely Dan. The tribute band who will be performing a Steely Dan tribute is Good Stuff, so if you want to hear some good stuff, get your tickets now!

Do You Know Steely Dan?

This classic American rock band was formed in 1971 with only two multi-talented members, Walter Becker and Donald Fagen. We say multi-talented because they were both able to play multiple instruments. Becker alone was able to play two different string instruments–guitars and bass–while also being the band’s backing vocalist. Fagen played the keyboard and performed the lead vocals in their original music.

Steely Dan originates from Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. While there, Becker and Fagen found a musical sound that blended elements of jazz, Latin music, R&B, and blues music. This diverse combination of sounds led to their concert appearances being one-of-a-kind experiences.

Now, to bring those experiences back, we have the famous cover band Good Stuff coming to perform a Steely Dan tribute.

Bringing the Good Stuff

This band has been performing for years as a Steely Dan tribute band and as a tribute band for other musicians such as Stevie Wonder, Sting, and Gino Vanelli. They recognized that there are so many people growing up and becoming fans of classic music but will never get the chance to hear these bands play live. So to fix that, they became a tribute band.

They’ve studied and practiced their craft to capture as much of what the original bands were doing as possible. The members of Good Stuff from across the east coast–including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut–bring in the perfect range of talent to meet this momentous task. If you’ve always wanted to hear what Steely Dan was like live, or you want to share that experience with your friends and loved ones, Good Stuff is how you can do it.
